BreakThru Productions Sp. z o.o. was created by Hugh Welchman and Sean Bobbit in 2012. It is known for groundbreaking, artistic and commercially successful animation projects. Their first major production, Peter and the Wolf, won the Oscar for best animated short, premiered to a sold out Royal Albert Hall, and was a pioneering film in the now popular format of films exhibited in concert halls accompanied by live orchestras.
BreakThru's most recent film, Loving Vincent, is the world’s first fully painted feature film, and was a success both with film festivals and in terms of worldwide box office. This $5.5m film grossed $42m from its theatrical release, making it one of the most successful animations of all time for an adult audience. The film picked up 23 Audience Awards at film festivals, including the coveted Annecy Cristal at the world’s biggest animation festival, and was nominated as best feature animation in the world’s most prestigious award events including The Oscars and the Golden Globes.
BreakThru are continuing to develop and produce feature films in the Painting Animation technique they pioneered with Loving Vincent, and will be producing 3 feature films in this technique over the next 10 years.
ADDITIONALLY BREAKTHRU IS INTERESTED IN CO-PRODUCTIONS WITH ESTABLISHED DIRECTORS AND PRODUCERS WHO HAVE FEATURE FILM PROJECTS THAT THEY ARE INTERESTED IN MAKING IN BREAKTHRU’S PAINTING ANIMATION STYLE.
